Information

The Criminal Justice System is not short of insight. Reviews, reform programmes and frontline experience have repeatedly identified the pressures: delay, fragmented information, avoidable rework, ineffective hearings and the human cost for victims, witnesses, defendants and practitioners. The Leveson Review reinforces the need for a long-term vision for criminal justice in 2035, but the question for the sector is more immediate: how does the system move from knowing what needs to change to making change happen?

This panel will explore whether responsible AI adoption can help close that gap. Not by replacing professional judgment or bypassing safeguards, but by helping justice organisations simplify complexity, expose friction, test ideas, reduce administrative burden and support earlier, better-informed action.

Bringing together operational, academic and third-sector perspectives, the discussion will challenge the sector to move beyond familiar conversations about technology and modernisation. It will ask why good ideas are so hard to scale, what prevents cross-system change, where AI could help the CJS learn and adapt faster, and what must remain firmly human-led.

CGI will facilitate a practical and honest conversation about how justice organisations can move from ambition to action, improving outcomes now while building towards the 2035 vision with confidence, accountability and care.
