Breaking the Legacy Cycle: From Maintenance to Continual Modernisation

This session addresses the critical challenge of managing archaic systems that currently hinder digital delivery across the public sector. Rather than viewing legacy as a static problem to be addressed every few years, we will explore the transition toward "evergreen" technology and a culture of continual modernisation. This discussion focuses on moving beyond high-cost maintenance to create resilient, cloud-ready platforms that allow for zero disruption to services.

• Retiring legacy components while successfully migrating core services to resilient, cloud-ready platforms.
• How do we shift from buying and replacing every few years to a model of continual modernisation to achieve an "evergreen" IT estate?
• Implementing evergreen strategies at the point of commercial procurement to ensure long-term scalability.
• How to use sandboxes and robust testing to ensure new products are compatible with historic government constraints?
