London Borough of Newham – UK Centre for AI in the Public Sector
Government Village
Information
Newham is one of London’s youngest and most diverse boroughs. It is a place of innovation, creativity, and ambition. As home to some of the UK’s most dynamic communities, Newham is committed to driving inclusive innovation and improving outcomes for all residents.
Through our ambitious Newham Data programme, we’re using data to transform public services, tackle inequality, and power new approaches to local decision-making. At the heart of this effort is the UK’s first Centre for AI in the Public Sector, established in partnership with the University of East London (UEL).
The Centre is focused on advancing ethical, practical AI for local government – from planning and housing to public health and climate action. It also plans to host two new flagship initiatives: the AI Ethics Hub and the AI Skills Academy for the Public Sector, both designed to support councils and public bodies across the UK to innovate responsibly and build long-term digital capacity.
We’re also proud to be launching our Data and AI Strategy 2025–2027 at DigiGov 2025, setting out a bold vision for how data and AI can power fairer, smarter, and more inclusive public services over the next three years.
Come and meet us at the Government Village to discover how Newham is leading the way on AI and data for public good and explore exciting opportunities to collaborate, co-design, and build the future of digital government together.
